Rubery Owen’s CEO Becomes Father Christmas

December 22, 2020

Our CEO, Richard Jenkins, took on the role of Father Christmas in Shrewsbury’s Carols on the Doorstep, filming for the BBC’s The One Show. The One Show airs topical news stories from across the United Kingdom. The programme went out on Tuesday the 15th on BBC1.

Carols on the Doorstep started in Shropshire. The event encouraged communities to sing Christmas Carols on their doorstep, at 6pm on December the 16th, in their household bubbles. The community carols were broadcast on local radio stations across the UK, such as BBC Radio Derby, Somerset, York, Cambridgeshire, Sussex, Nottingham, London, Stoke, and Andover Radio, to help everybody stay in time. Carol sheets are still available to download from the official Carols on the Doorstep website www.doorstepcarols.co.uk

It was fantastic to see so many radio stations on board with the event, to spread some much-needed cheer! The event was coordinated to raise money for Shropshire Mind www.shropshiremind.org, a crucial local mental health charity providing essential support to those in need. The cause is especially important this year, as many people do not have bubbles to turn to, in a time where we all feel a little bit distanced.

Other supported charities include Age UK Shropshire Telford and Wrekin, Shrewsbury Food Hub, and Telford Crisis Support. Carols on the Doorstep also encouraged carollers across the country to use the event in support of various other local charities.

It was wonderful to have our CEO take part in spreading some much-needed festive joy, whilst raising money for some incredible causes. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, best wishes, from the RO team.
